Study: 'Big Mike' Go Home; Bowersox Continues to Rock

Updated: Wednesday, 12 May 2010, 10:50 AM CDT
Published : Wednesday, 12 May 2010, 10:50 AM CDT

(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - "American Idol" singer Crystal Bowersox owns the No. 1 spot with viewers and voters, while most think Michael "Big Mike" Lynche should be eliminated from the singing competition, according to a new study.

A national study of 3,476 "American Idol" viewers placed the Lynche at the bottom of the final four based on his performance Tuesday night, while Bowersox was voted tops.

Bowersox received 55.3 percent of the votes for the contestant most want to move forward, while Lynche only received 11.9 percent of the votes.

The two and three spots were Lee DeWyze with 18.6 percent of the votes and Casey James with 14.2 percent.

The study was conducted on May 11 and 12 by HCD Research using its mediacurves.com Web site, to obtain "American Idol" viewers' perceptions of which contestants should be eliminated on Wednesday's results show.

The company said it is conducting a series of studies among a nationally representative sample of Americans, which parallel the "American Idol" voting to determine the weekly winners based on a democratic, "one person, one vote" methodology.

HCD Research stated that the studies are being conducted in response to the controversy over the validity of the voting process that is currently used to select the weekly winners. The study results are compared to the actual results of the show each week. To view detailed results visit: www.mediacurves.com/americanidol/idoldemocracy

Those interested in participating in the study can register for weekly Idol Democracy studies .

Respondents were asked to pick the one contestant that they thought should advance to the next round of the competition:

% that voted for contestant to move on

Crystal Bowersox

55.3%

Lee Dewyze

18.6%

Casey James

14.2%
