Breast-Feeding Moms Sponsor New BYOB

(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - The acronym BYOB doesn’t stand for bring your own booze for thousands of excited new moms. According to AOL News, new moms around the country who breast-feed can look forward to attending BYOB parties for encouragement and support about nursing their children.

That’s right, the last 'B' in BYOB stands for boobz. Bettina Forbes, co-founder of the group Best for Babes who is sponsoring the parities, added the z and also got the name trademarked.

Forbes told AOL News, “We're interested in doing something non-judgmental, something fun, something party-style. And that's exactly what we're doing. We're giving breast-feeding a makeover.

The BYOB parties were created in response to a campaign that the formula company Nestle was promoting. Breast-feeding advocates were concerned that unhealthy formula standards were being followed and women responded by forming these parties.

Best for Babes' Facebook fan page got mom’s talking.

“A lot of people were dismayed about these house parties out there promoting unhealthy feeding choices. People talked about boycotts and nurse-ins. But then someone mentioned having breast-feeding parties and someone else chimed in with the BYOB idea. We wanted to do something really fun , so this fit perfectly," Forbes told AOL News.

The Best of Babes mission is to promote breast-feeding without guilt for the mother. Their Facebook page reads, “Giving Breastfeeding a Makeover and Beating the Booby Traps so all moms can make feeding decisions without pressure, judgment or guilt, and achieve their personal breastfeeding goals, whether for two days, two months, or two years or beyond!”

Forbes knows that breast-feeding isn’t always a wonderful experience for mothers and wants to give women a realistic view. She’s hoping these parties will help with her mission.

The first party is scheduled for Sept. 29 in New York at Deva Spa in SoHo. After that, home kits will be available for women to be able to host their own parties around the country.
